Soil Calculator for Raised Garden Beds

Preparing raised garden beds is thrilling. From concept to construction, it’s an exciting process. However, once created, you may feel stumped as to the main ingredient in a garden bed: soil. Running out of soil during the planting season is irritable to say the least. On the other hand, having too much precious-ly purchased soil is a different kind of nuisance. Enter the Emerson Wild Soil Calculator (or at least an easy formula) to help you ensure you have exactly what you need when it comes to soil. Soil Calculator Steps:

STEP ONE:

Determine the total width of your raised bed in feet and we’ll call it ‘W’

STEP TWO:

Then, determine the total length of your raised bed in feet and we’ll call it ‘L’

STEP THREE

Measure the total height of your raised bed in feet and we’ll call it ‘H’.

Julie’s Notes: Leave a few inches off of your total height measurement as you do not need your soil to be flush with the top of your bed. Moreover, prepare this measurement on the inside of your bed rather than the outside (especially if you remove any grass).

STEP FOUR:

Finally, multiply all three together: ‘W’ x ‘L’ x ‘H’ to determine your total cubic feet needed for your raised beds. This soil calculator is prepared for cubic feet but is applicable to other units as well.
